Thank you 2025!

It's official our 2025 season has WRAPPED. We are nearing the 2 year anniversary of buying Ket-Chun-Eny lodge which is crazy because it really feels like it was only a few months ago that we moved in!  It is true what they say about the days going by slowly but the years going by quickly. Furthermore we are approaching the 5 year anniversary of Temagami Outdoors, our original ice fishing and outdoor adventure business!

This wouldn’t be a proper update blog post without taking the time to thank YOU. Our supporters, customers and guests. You might think we are providing you with opportunities to enjoy Temagami but without you we wouldn’t be here living our dreams either. From the bottom of our hearts thank you!

The main goal of this blog post is to share the updates we have made to the property in the last two years as well as the updates we plan on doing in the upcoming year. As many people know undertaking a project like this is a labor of love but requires ample time and money to get things done. We really try to see things from our guests' perspectives and prioritize smaller items that are feasible for us to complete that can also pack a punch. 

In the 2 years we have been here we have replaced nearly every toilet! Thats more beneficial to us but we are incredibly proud of that. Every BBQ has been replaced which means no more BBQ lighters! This has been a highlight for many people considering the BBQ is the main way people cook when they stay with us. We removed the old plastic muskoka style chairs and added some nice and fresh mesh outdoor chairs that are easy to move around, easy to clean and most importantly easy to get in and out of after you have had a few drinks! 

We have also been slowly cleaning the clutter and obsolete items from the property and only have a few more small spaces left to clean out. Between the debris removal, cleaning up landscaping and making the firepit a cleaner more usable area we are thrilled and really seeing our vision coming to life. The new kayak/canoe rack keeps the beach and lawn area tidy which allows for more room for activities as well. Cabin #4 got a brand new roof back in October and will receive a few bathroom updates in the upcoming months to address some concerns left behind by the leaky roof. By next spring the lodge will have all updated lighting- including in the games room meaning playing pool and shuffleboard just got even better. 

And finally one of our favourite and most beloved updates has been our wi-fi system. There is no longer a need to stand in front of the window of our house to get wifi. There is high quality wi-fi cast across the island and with the exceptions of a few tiny areas you have internet across the entire property. This is particularly great for people who need to work a little bit while they are on vacation. 

Now onto the things we plan on updating in the next year! We are finally in a place to start updating the guest experience by updating bed linens, pillows and mattresses. This will be huge because a great sleep is such a treat when you are on vacation. Updating cabin wares such as pots and pans is at the top of the list as well. The cabins will be getting painted and stairs fixed and moved to better accommodate groups and the space we have. We will continue to optimise communal spaces and add clear signage to ensure the island is used to its full potential. This includes rethinking the outdoor shuffle board court area-we think a nice outdoor eating space would be spectacular there! All of the lodge lighting will be getting updated to be more effective and efficient and the games room will be getting a bit of refresh as well. One of the most exciting updates we will be doing is building a new fish cleaning hut between cabin #1 and #2. This means no more trucking across the island with your net full of fish as well as some great views while cleaning the fish. 

Overall we are happy with the trajectory of things and have some capital projects in mind in the upcoming years including a big dock overhaul, but as many of you are aware there are A LOT of docks/boardwalks and this will take time. It has been truly miraculous to watch all of this come together over the past two years and with some more hard work and elbow grease 2026 is going to be the best year yet!
